Writer Haden Blackman posted on his blog on Monday that Batwoman #26 would be the last issue that he and J.H. Williams III would work on. He states that “DC has asked us to alter or completely discard many long-standing storylines in ways that we feel compromise the character and the series.” The proposed storyline had Batwoman set to marry her girlfriend, Maggie Sawyer.
The creative team continues “We’ve always understood that, as much as we love the character, Batwoman ultimately belongs to DC. However, the eleventh-hour nature of these changes left us frustrated and angry — because they prevent us from telling the best stories we can. So, after a lot of soul-searching, we’ve decided to leave the book after Issue 26.”
Williams tweeted the following comment and this was then retweeted by Blackman
To reiterate: Were NEVER told they could not marry because of gay marriage. AT ALL —
— J.H. Williams III (@JHWilliamsIII)
Will this change in Batwoman’s story effect its sales? How will Batwoman’s readers react to this news?
Take a look at both Blackman’s and Williams’ twitter feeds. It shows an outpouring of support for both writers and unfortunately negative threats towards DC.
How do you feel about Batwoman marrying her girlfriend? Would Batwoman marrying Maggie made a big difference in her storyline?
