Beloved Children's Author E.L Konigsburg Dies

Tarra Matthews

Managing Editor

The double John Newbery Medal winner, the top honour for children’s literature, has passed away at the age of 83.

Konigsburg was the lady behind the pen for the children’s classics “The View from Saturday” and “From the Mixed-Up of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler” both of which hold the distinction of being awarded the Newbury Medal in 1997 & 1968 respectively. Her first book, “Jennifer, Hecate, MacBeth, William McKinley, and Me, Elizabeth” was the Newbury Medal runner-up in 1968 making her the only author to be both winner and runner-up in the same year!

Her stories are also no stranger to being adapted for the screen, both big and small. This includes her work, “The Hideaways” which was made into a movie in 1973 starring Ingrid Bergman.
