A new Doctor will be seen in Dr. Who. We will first meet our new time-traveling mystery man in the 2013 Doctor Who Christmas special. In the following year, we will watch Peter Capaldi full time as the TARDIS dwelling Doctor. Capaldi almost wasn’t the12th Doctor. Several other actors were considered for this coveted role; there was a list. One of the top choices was actually Ben Daniels.  He was “at one point named as the bookies' favorite”. The truth is, an email pertaining to Matt Smith’s departure from the program was somehow leaked, and thus the announcement of a new Doctor came early. According to Daniels, “Apparently, usually when it's announced that the [old] Doctor is leaving, the new Doctor's already firmly in place.”

That obviously did not happen. Rumors flew left and right as to who might fill this iconic role, which was one Daniels would have been more than happy to fill – he is, it seems to be a Whovian. "So I was asked, and when I eventually managed to peel myself off the ceiling, I said, 'Yeah, of course it'd be something I'd be interested in doing,' and I was hugely excited by it,” he admitted to Digital Spy in a recent interview. It was a waiting game for the actor. He’d often call his agent, who would tell him his name was still on the list. He also spent his time reading through the rumors. “I was thoroughly entertained reading all those daily rumors online,” the actor muses. After two months he was cut, Capaldi was chosen, and then the new Doctor was announced at a live program; the rest is history. How will the new Doctor be received? Only time and the Doctor Who fan-base will tell. Surely, the Whovians will share their thoughts on the man’s portrayal of the famous time traveler.
