Ben Rector is not just your typical pop-rock singer/sogwriter. He is much more than that. 

Born in Oklahoma, Rector took pian lessons as a child but i wasn’ until high school that he picked up a guitar and decided to pursue music. He attended the University of Arkansas where within his first year there released his self-titled EP. His EP went on to win the Grand Prize in the pop category of the John Lennon songwriting competition in 2006. 

The following year, in 2007, he released his first full length album Twenty Tomorrow. Since then he made the move to Nashville to pursue songwriting more and continue his career as an artist. Since then his career has taken off with 6 full length albums and 3 EPS. His music influencers include: THe Beatles, James Taylor, Randy Newman, Billy Joel and Spoon just to name a few. 

Rector is getting ready to release his newest album entitled Magic. Magic marks his first album released since 2015’s Brand New. The album produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, AIR, M83) and John Fields (Goo Goo Dolls, All Time Low) is a perfect edition to your summer playlist.  The 13 track album is full of 80’s and 90’s sounds with a mix of Huey Lewis and Hall N Oats.

From the moment I started listening to the album, each track from “Extraordinary Magic” to “Love Like This” the entire album is so powerful and dynamic. The mix of Rector’s vocals, (which are very soothing, relaxing yet powerful reminds me of a mix of John Mayer and Gavin Degraw) and the synths and piano-fuled in the background makes the album great and makes me want to dance. There was no song on the album that I did not like. 

I would highly reccommend you listening, buying and sharing this album with everyone. Its a perfect album for a road trip with all the window’s down and the wind in your hair.
