Sad news. Actress Betsy Palmer, who played the iconic role of Mrs. Voorhees in the 'Friday the 13th' films, has died at the age of 88.Longtime manager Brad Lemack confirmed her passing to The Associated Press today, saying that Betsy died this past Friday of natural causes while in hospice care in Connecticut.Palmer is survived by her daughter Melissa Merendino.
Other credits for Palmer included TV spots in 'Knot's Landing', 'Murder She Wrote', 'Newhart', as well as film roles in 'Queen Bee' with Joan Crawford and 'The Tin Star' with Henry Fonda.
In a very nostalgic throwback, Betsy once confirmed the only reason she took the role as the murderous mother in 'Friday the 13th', was so that she would have enough money to buy herself a new car. The role would become iconic for her, and turn her into a screen legend.
