This is no trick. It’s time for another season of thrills and chills brought to you by none other than its Glee-ful creator, Ryan Murphy. As an early Halloween treat, E!online  shared the delightfully ambitious promo that tantalizes the senses, surely making viewers want more. Coven is set to take the viewers on the journey of young witches, as Cordelia teaches them how to protect themselves from the outside world. "You girls need to learn how to fight. When witches don't fight, we burn,” Fiona, their teacher’s mother, proclaims to the youth. However, things are not as simple as they seem. While Fiona is protecting them, she is a dangerous adversary; a woman who should be feared. Will the girls be in trouble? Judging by the 30 second spot shared by E!online, the answer is yes. The focus this season won’t just be about young witches learning how to empower themselves. No. Viewers will be taken on a twisting, churning adventure through time, in which the past will intermingle with the present; historical figures will be brought to life in American Horror Story: Coven. New to the show, Kathy Bates tackles the role of Madame Delphine LaLaurie. This 18th and 19th century Louisiana socialite was surrounded by rumors of brutality that were ultimately true. It appears she tried to hide the gruesome acts she inflicted upon servants, and even children, because while in the presence of visitors, LaLaurie was kind and generous. Even to this day, there are mysteries surrounding her, the deaths of her husbands, and ultimately LaLaurie’s disappearance. Another newcomer to the show is Angela Bassett. She will portray the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans, Marie Laveau. Born a free woman of Color, she became rich and successful in her field, although people both feared and respected her because of what Laveau could do. Historical records show that even the police sought her skills to solve crimes. It is yet to be seen how crucial these two characters will be to this season of American Horror Story. Whether their parts will be big or small, Bassett and Bates surely will make an impact on the storylines. With such strong actors cast in these roles that fact is inevitable.
