The 16th season of the CBS reality series concluded last night and a winner was chosen! The hit men alliance of Derrick and Cody went head to head in the final round the Head of Household competition to guarantee a spot in the final two and a chance to win the $500,000 grand prize. Cody narrowly defeated Derrick in a tiebreaker during part three, and made a horrendously bad decision by evicting Victoria (who was a seat filler) over Derrick.
When it came time to address the jury and plea for the jurors vote to win, Derrick simply laid out his flawless game play by pointing out that he avoided every nomination (55 in total this season, an impressive record amount) and played a hand in almost every single eviction.
Cody clearly was under the impression he served as an equal to Derrick which couldn't be filled with more inaccuracies, and his attempt to earn votes fell more than short. In the end, Derrick won with a 7-2 vote, and admitted his secret identity as a police detective to the house guest’s surprise.
To further shock the contestants, Team America (comprised of Frankie, Derrick, and Donny) was revealed, particularly shocking Zach who took the brunt of many Team America tasks. (There’s all all-stars buddy!) Unsurprisingly, Donny won the $25,000 fan favorite award and with his cash from the Team America tasks, ended up with a decent chunk of change.
This season it became clear that Derrick was going to manipulate his way to the end, approaching others as if he always had their interests at heart, and won when necessary. While he may have not been my particular favorite, I can completely give credit where credit is due in saying congratulations on a perfect strategy, there is simply no denying he came to play the game from beginning to end, definitely proving a strong social game is quite an important factor to winning Big Brother.
It has already been confirmed that Big Brother will return for a 17th and 18th season, and I’m holding out hope for an all-stars season to see the most infamous players return to battle it out in my favorite summertime series. Would you prefer returnees or newbies next year?
