‘Big Brother Canada’ Ends Production on Season 8 Due To Coronavirus Pandemic

Season 8 of Big Brother Canada is over.

Season 8 Ends Due To COVID-19 Threat

Big Brother Canada is ending its supersized eighth season after just three weeks due to the growing coronavirus outbreak, Global announced on Tuesday.

The news comes after new guidelines and regulations were put in place in Ontario to prevent the virus from spreading any further. Global confirmed that there are currently no plans to resume production at a later date.

“‘Big Brother Canada’ is a labour of love for so many, and even though it hurts to say goodbye to the season, it’s the right thing to do,” said host Arisa Cox in a statement. “On behalf of the incredible people who put this show together, thank you to everyone who started this journey with us. Please take care and be safe!”

The Canadian version of the show is not the only Big Brother franchises to be affected by the virus. Brazil, Germany, Israel, and Sweden will continue their seasons but Australia’s version has been temporarily halted after a crew member was tested for COVID-19. However, the test came back negative and filming is set to resume sometime next week.

Big Brother Canada‘s eighth season saw just one true eviction after one houseguest quit and two others were ejected for their behaviour. One houseguest saw his Head of Household reign continue for two straight weeks due to the housemates’ ejection and removal from the game.

The show will officially wrap up its eighth season with a pair of episodes on Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. ET and Wednesday, April 1 at 7 p.m. ET.
