Bill Murray Leads ‘Take Me Out To The Ball Game’ At World Series

Bill Murray led the stadium in a rousing rendition of ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ in the style of Daffy Duck, on Game 3 of the World Series.

With this year’s World Series seeming to be a close match up for the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs, either team could definitely use the boost to swing the game in their favor. Legendary actor Bill Murray came through to boost his favorite team’s morale.

At Game 3 of the World Series, fans at Wrigley Field not only got to see their home team competing for the championship for the first time since 1945 but they were treated to a surprise on the 7th inning stretch.

Seeing big name celebrities at baseball games supporting their home team is nothing new to baseball fans, but there are certain times where the home team invites celebrities like Bill Murray to lead the entire stadium in singing a classic song during the 7th inning stretch. That is exactly what happened on Friday.

Not only did Murray, a Chicago native and huge Cubs fan, get to have the microphone to lead the stadium in a rousing rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” but he also sang it in the style of another American icon, Daffy Duck.

Murray immediately earned everybody’s attention by starting off his time with the microphone reminding everyone that it was last call to buy beer during the game. And, to try to get Wrigley Field even more excited and, hopefully, to pass on the excitement to the players, he said he wanted to sing the song as Daffy, who he called the “greatest American entertainer.”

“And in order to sing the right lyric ‘take me out with the crowd,’ you need to sing it like … Daffy Duck,” he told the crowd. “So I want you to spray it and don’t say it!”

According to Niall Ferguson, Murray sang the classic baseball song in the style of Daffy after the Cubs clinched the National League title a week ago.

The Cubs ended up losing to the Indians after the only run in the game was scored by Michael Martinez on Coco Crisp’s RBI single at the top of the 7th.

The World Series continues at Wrigley Field for Games 4 and 5, and will return to Progressive Field for Games 6 and 7, if necessary.

Maybe, if the series returns to Cleveland, Lebron James — who has been spotted during the Indians’ postseason run — can have his turn leading “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” himself.

Which celebrities do you want to hear singing the iconic song? Let us know!
