One of the most folkloric figures in entertainment today is Bill Murray. For years he has been this strangely hilarious, enigmatic figure who seems to be omnipresent, at least that is if the dozens of stories of encounters with Murray are true.
Now it seems us fans of Murray have even more reason to celebrate – the comedian is going to star in a Christmas special, and of course it won’t be a straightforward, traditional Christmas special, because that quite simply is not who Bill Murray is.
The special will see Murray singing a variety of different Christmas carols. He spoke about the special by saying:
“Like a little movie. It won’t have a format, but it’s going to have music. It will have texture. It will have threads through it that are writing. There will be prose. It will have a patina style and wit to it. It will be nice.”
Another interesting fact about this special is that it will be directed by Sofia Coppola. Coppola and Murray have famously worked together in the past in the 2003 film Lost in Translation, which led to Murray being nominated for an Academy Award and winning dozens of awards from various groups.
The special does not yet have an air date, or even a network, but it is sure to be something very strange and of course very funny. Most of all though, who wouldn’t want to see Bill Murray singing Christmas carols?
