Score another awesome victory for YouTubers. Viral videos are all the rage on the web and now going viral has yet another benefit besides getting you noticed by everyone: it can help you score a song at the top of the Billboard charts. Billboard is finally recognizing the benefits of YouTube and has announced that U.S. YouTube data is now one of the factors when deciding and ranking the Hot 100 songs and songs on its other charts.

This amazing rule took place this week, allowing the viral-video hit “Harlem Shake” to make its debut at No. 1. The other factors included in how the rankings are figured are radio airplay, digital download sales, physical single sales, on-demand audio streaming, and online radio streaming. The rule now includes all official videos on YouTube , including Vevo.

What do you think about the new Billboard format? Does it make more sense to do this? Will you be seeing some of your favorites on the Billboard charts now?
