Billy Joel, a name synonymous with everything that is right with music is making his return to Madison Square Garden for his first full headlining concert series since his last run in 2006. The original “Piano Man” will play four dates at The Garden on January 27, February 3, March 21 and April 18, 2014. Last night, Glee paid tribute to the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer the only way they know how, by dedicating an entire episode to his music, something that gained the attention of the man himself. Joel commented “I’m very happy that my material is being done by people of that age group, and that I guess it has meaning for them. “I’m always surprised when I look out at the audience [at concerts] and I see a lot of younger people, like they’ve discovered this stuff on their own. I doubt that a lot of younger kids listen to classic-rock radio. They have their own music now, and in light of that, I guess my stuff hasn’t aged so badly that nobody wants to hear it anymore.” In 2012, Joel inked a global publishing deal with Rondor and Universal Music publishing which was aimed at exposing his music catalogue to a new generation of fans, by creating more licensing opportunities. The first major result of this deal was yesterday’s “Movin’ Out” episode of Glee. Billy Joel’s career spans four decades, includes 33 U.S. Top 40 hits, six Grammy awards and includes the Grammy Legend Award, has been inducted into both the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and has sold over 150 million albums worldwide. Tickets for all performances can be purchased through the Official Billy Joel website and Ticketmaster. Check out a classic video of Billy Joel performing Piano Man from Shea Stadium in 1990 below.
