Oprah tends to take her time when it comes to choosing what projects she will take part in. It’s hard not to notice how much effort she puts into her work, like her work The Color Purple. Her performances are always flawless. The Butler, which also stars Forest Whitaker and Terrence Howard, is Oprah’s first on-screen appearance in over ten years.

This period film earned $8.3 million on its very first day, which is setting up the film for a 25 million dollar total for the weekend, making it likely that the film will push into first place.

All the other films released this past weekend didn’t fair nearly as well as The Butler. The superhero action film Kick-Ass 2 took second place to The Butler, bringing in only 5.5 million, which was a pretty big decrease in sales from the 2010 hit Kick-Ass, which earned 19.8 million on its opening weekend.

It looks like Kick-Ass 2 may only pull in a total of 14 million. Kick-Ass 2 performed better than Jobs, the much anticipated Steve Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher, which would only bring in a total of $2.6 million.

Paranoia bombed completely at the box office, struggling to pull off a mere 1.3 million on its first day in theaters. We’re The Millers continued to pull in strong numbers, despite a 36 percent drop in sales, leaving Millers with $5.4 million weekend profit. After two weekends, We’re The Millers is looking at around $69 million in total sales from the past two weeks. Elysium fell 65 percent since last Friday to $3.9 million, and looks to earn about $12 million in its second week, bringing its complete total to $54 million.

2.) Kick-Ass 2– $ 5.5 million

3.) We’re The Millers– $ 5.4 million
