“When I’d finished the chemo and the radiotherapy, I went to see the doctor again for my regular blood tests. I said, ‘So it’s gone now?’ And he said, ‘No, it’s not going to go. You’re not going to get rid of it. But we can treat it and work with it,’” he said in a recent interview with Guitar World. “I got all dismal, because I thought it was gone. He said there was a 30 percent chance of it going away, but I was probably going to have this for life. Now I get treatments to keep it from spreading.”

65-year-old Iommi was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, in early 2012. He began to undergo treatment soon after.

In a statement released in April, the guitarist told fans that he’s been feeling better while working on the upcoming Black Sabbath record, titled “13” and slated for a June 10th release. It will be the first Black Sabbath album featuring singer Ozzy Osbourne in 35 years.

Iommi says he plans to tour with the rest of the band to support the release, but will have to fly home every six weeks like clockwork to receive his antibody treatments. The concerts have been planned around his hospital visits.
