Vampire fans, get excited! It looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be getting a lot more blood-sucking action as Marvel producer Kevin Feige has said that the character of Blade, of the popular sci-fi thriller series of the same name, will very likely turn up in MCU.

Though there are no concrete plans for the vampire-fighting Daywalker, Feige did acknowledge the huge impact the original Blade movies had on the world of comic book films and definitely thinks the character would be a worthy addition to the revamped Marvel film franchise.

“We think it would be cool. Someday. My tenure at Marvel started 17 years ago, and there were two things that sort of launched the modern era. One was X-Men, which was the first thing that people said, ‘Oh, there’s life here.’ But a few years before that, there was Blade.“

Fiege went on to say that at the time, Blade was considered a bit of an unknown and was the precursor to more films about unlikely superheroes, like the Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange. Wesley Snipes, who played the original Blade, has previously said he’s up for another round as the vampire hunter and that “the ball is in Marvel’s court.” There was also talk about a series or film starring Blade’s daughter that unfortunately didn’t seem to go anywhere beyond the rumor mill.

Even before the recent announcement that Spider-Man would be leading Phase Four of the MCU, critics have been pointing out the lack of diversity in the MCU. Blade, in addition to the upcoming Black Panther movie, would certainly be a welcome addition to what has become an largely Caucasian cast to this point.

The original Blade released in 1998 and earned $131 million worldwide. The film was followed up by the highly successful Blade II (directed by Guillermo del Toro), which earned $155 million. Ignoring the final film, Blade: Trinity, is probably best for everyone involved, as it was seen as a failure by critics and fans alike.

Still though, 2 out of 3 isn’t bad, and with the launch of the Universal Studios’ new “Dark Universe” bringing monsters back to the big screen—as well as the continued success of the MCU, of course—conditions have never been better for Blade to return once again.
