Horror fans have something new to look forward to after San Diego Comic Con made an interesting reveal – there is going to be an upcoming sequel to the 1999 film The Blair Witch Project. Originally the film was labeled as “The Woods” offering a trailer of a group of campers who were being attacked by an unknown entity, using only the slightest of information. Fans who attended a screening of the film during SDCC expected it to be The Woods, but became aware that in reality this is very much a direct sequel to The Blair Witch Project.
A trailer for the film (titled Blair Witch) dropped in the midst of the SDCC madness connecting the films together in multiple aspects. For example, the lead character of Blair Witch finds a tape taken by his sister and her camera crew (from the events of The Blair Witch Project) believing she is still out there all these years later. This takes the younger brother to the woods alongside new faces, where the witch is rumored to reside and begins a quest to find his sister or answers at the very least. From the footage released, there will be plenty of throwbacks to the original with bigger and better eerie twig bundles that signify her presence. If the Blair Witch can reinvent horror the way The Blair Witch Project introduced found footage, horror fans will surely have something to look forward to when the film is released in theatres September 16, 2016.
