Boeing 787 Dreamliner Makes Emergency Landing At Glasgow Airport

A Boeing 787 Dreamliner had to make an emergency landing in Glasgow after a mishap with the firefighting system aboard the aircraft.

Polish airline LOT has had some trouble this morning, with one of their Dreamliner aircraft making an emergency landing at Glasgow airport.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner landed in the Scottish airport at 11:35 BST, after an emergency was declared by the flight crew. En route from Chicago to Warsaw, the plane was met on the ground by emergency services, although all 248 people on board are reported to be uninjured. An emergency was declared due to an alert from the plane’s firefighting system in the luggage compartment, LOT spokeswoman Barbara Pijanowsk-Kuras told Sky News.

Whilst some reports have stated that smoke was smelt by passengers onboard, a spokesman for Glasgow Airport has said that the safety checks showed no sign of fire or smoke damage on board the aircraft.

Glasgow Airport has remained open and is continuing to run flights undisrupted, and airline LOT have stated that they will begin to arrange alternate transport for passengers to get to their destination of Warsaw. Boeing maintains that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a safe aircraft, however since its launch, it has been heavily inundated with problems, including being grounded for three months after the battery systems caused alarming amounts of smoke in the cabin.
