‘Bond 25’ Is Coming To The IMAX Big Screen

This is a huge deal for 007 fans, because it will be the first time ever in the history of the super debonair sleuth that a James Bond film will be released in IMAX.

It seems as though the famous secret agent 007 has been in the entertainment news almost weekly. From casting to production delays on the upcoming film, to rumors and speculations to possible confirmations on who the next James Bond will be to replace Daniel Craig. As far as the latter is concerned, I think we can all calm down a bit and not turn into horses headed for the barn. Let’s concentrate on Daniel Craig’s movie right now first, and then discuss the future. It is also not completely a foregone conclusion that Daniel Craig will not be doing anymore, as it has been stated that the producers would love to have him stay on. At any rate, even if Craig is replaced, it will likely be several more years even after the announcement before we actually get the film.

But there’s new exciting information regarding the next Bond film, which was rumored to be going under the title of Shatterhand, and now the working title of Eclipse, and that is that Bond 25 will really be headed to the big screen in the new release date of April 8, 2020. IndieWire just uncovered that the film will be shot in IMAX. Cinematographer Linus Sandgren, known for his work on films like American Hustle (2013), La La Land (2016), and First Man (2018), will be behind the lense for those specific IMAX shots.

This is a huge deal for 007 fans, because it will be the first time ever in the history of the super debonair sleuth that a James Bond film will be released in IMAX. If you got a chance to experience recent films like the war epic Dunkirk (2017) or the clever stunt-smashing Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) in IMAX, you know what IMAX is like these days. The grand scope and picture and inescapable sound completely immerses you into the movie-going experience, and with an action-packed James Bond film that is sure to have many pleasing and edge-of-your-seat thrill-ride sequences, not to mention an always dependably and bankably heart-pounding opening pre-credit sequence, this will definitely be a moment in cinematic history that you won’t want to miss. 007 deserves the IMAX treatment, and we don’t get Bond films frequently, so seeing one is an event in itself, but next year it will be even more so.

Currently, and also as previously stated, Bond 25 has a release date of April 8, 2020, and is being helmed by Cary Fukunaga (Beasts of No Nation (2015)). The film has been confirmed to star Daniel Craig (Logan Lucky (2017)), Ben Whishaw (Mary Poppins Returns (2018)), Naomie Harris (Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018)), Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List (1993)), Léa Seydoux (The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)), and Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)).
