Boondocks Saints will soon be coming to a television screen near you.
Yes, IM Global Television has acquired the rights to an origin story series, which will be written by Troy Duffy, the man at the helm of the original 1999 cult classic.
Original stars Sean Patrick Flannery and The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus are in talks to become executive producers on the show.
It is reported that Duffy has written the first episode which will foreshadow the movies and act as a precursor to the first installment.
The series will follow Conor and Murphy MacManus, two Irish immigrants in South Boston, and Duffy hopes the television medium will help to explore these dark and controversial characters and shed some light on their world.
IM Global’s president, Mark Stern, released a statement saying:
“Since its initial release more than 15 years ago, The Boondock Saints has become a true cultural phenomenon.”
It seems that this may be taking the reins from the reported Boondock Saints 3, which is, reportedly “definitely in the works”. If the show is successful, it may work in the favour of the film—as no script has been written—and could influence the story to include the world created in the show.
