The male mortal world has been shattered with news that Norse legend Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has been named “Sexiest Man Alive!” for 2014. Everyone else? Totally happy. Chris Hemsworth, whose brief shirtless appearance in the first Thor, is burned into our collective memory. That chest. Those arms. That gaze. The ability to call lightning from the sky. Yessss.

Hemsworth, 31, who is married (Reason #56 as to why I prefer Thor) to a very lovely woman, Elsa Pataky, is a devoted family man. He is close to his two brothers and tries to keep in mind something his mother told him while he raises his 3 kids.

“Mom said all you can do is love your kids and make sure they’re happy and safe… that’s what I try and do: the same thing. Having kids makes [my charity work] all the more poignant and important for me.”

What was that? Charity work? It seems our rock hard stud of the year is involved with the Australian Childhood Foundation, which helps children who have suffered abuse. He manages to make time to help the foundation (like when they launched a partnership with fashion house Gucci) despite his duties as Thor and as a family-man.
