Jesus Christ Superstar, a musical by mastermind Andrew Lloyd Weber, is getting a makeover and hitting the road once more. The “rock musical” is on the precipice of a North American, 50-city tour that will debut on June 9 in New Orleans.

I’m sure we’re all at least slightly familiar with Jesus Christ Superstar; I myself remember watching it in CCD class. But for me, the most exciting aspect of this announcement is who will be starring.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are some big musical names attached to the project. Former Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams (playing Mary Magdalene) and Incubus (one of my all-time favorite bands) frontman Brandon Boyd are ready to bring this show to life. Boyd will be depicting Judas, and his hippie, earth-child demeanor matched with his skinny build, olive skin and proclivity for scruff seem like an absolute perfect match for the significant character. Not to mention, as a person who has seen Incubus perform live nearly ten times, I can attest to the fact that he is a fabulous live performer. It’s going to be brilliant.

But that’s not all. JC Chasez (of *NSYNC fame) had also been linked to the production. He will depicting Pontius Pilot. Soooo, you’re telling me that in ONE production I will be able to see a member of Destiny’s Child and two of my favorite musicians in this whole wide world? Perhaps I have died and gone to heaven.

It has also been announced that John Rotten Lydon (better known as Johnny Rotten from The Sex Pistols) will play King Herod.

This is a completely new venture for Boyd, whose career has been almost exclusively related to Incubus (touring, albums, music videos etc.). But he’s excited for the shake up and looking forward to trying something new:

“It’s completely new, and it’s incredible. It’s an arena rock show.”

Check out Boyd and Williams rocking out to “Jesus Christ Superstar” on Good Morning America in the video below.

Tickets for the show go on sale next week, so get ’em while they’re hot!

And in case you’re not convinced, check out one of my favorite Incubus songs below. Boyd’s voice is very persuasive.
