Is Brian Williams Returning To NBC?

Opinions remain divided on whether or not Brian Williams’ suspension from NBC earlier this year was justified, and now rumor has it he’s returning to NBC.

Could Brian Williams be returning to NBC? As you may remember, the infamous anchor was removed from his post on NBC Nightly News after claims that his reporting was embellished. Since his suspension in February, Williams’ spot has been held by Lester Holt, but what happens to Williams in the future is still very much up in the air…or is it?

Andy Lack, NBC News Chairman, has reportedly been working on creating a new post for Williams, according to CNNMoney.

Currently, Williams is still under contract with NBC, and Lack doesn’t seem ready to give that up. In fact, according to these reports, Lack has asked his time to think about what Williams’ next role at the network could be.

If Williams stay at the network, NBC could avoid a very messy and expensive breakup with the anchor, especially since Williams has claimed in the past that he would not go without a fight.

Reportedly, one idea is to slowly bring Williams back into programming so he can once again earn the trust of viewers. Under this plan, however, Williams would have to fully explain why he said what he did, including why he embellished and reportedly lied about his experience in the Iraq war.

Not everyone is on board with this, of course, as many in the industry believe that Williams should leave the network, and if this occurs, NBC will likely have to dish out several millions of dollars to ensure Williams doesn’t publically bash them. However, it is important to realize that an internal NBC News investigation found that Williams embellished his reports as many as 12 times in his stint as anchor of NBC Nightly News.

What happens to Williams at this point is still up in the air, and may even continue throughout the summer months, as his suspension is set to go through until August.
