Bubbly Blessing Chambers will reveal she is transgender to Hollyoaks treasure Tony Hutchinson. As the soap delves into Blessing’s character we will learn that she was originally born Tyson Delaney. She also spent time in a young offenders institution as a male, before moving to Hollyoaks for a new lease of life. The Delaney family are keen to track down their “son” who have not seen Blessing since her transformation. The storyline begins when a private investigator, hired by the family, finds her in Hollyoaks. Speaking to Digital Spy, Modupe Adeyeye who plays Blessing said, "I found researching the character of Blessing really inspiring and I hope that her story of a young trans woman who is loud and feisty and unapologetic proves to be a good role model.” Making sure they get it right, Hollyoaks have been working with All About Trans, an organisation that aims to improve how trans people are portrayed in the media. Charity group, The Gender Trust, has also supported them. Laverne Cox from Orange Is The New Black inspired Blessing’s character, along with British journalist Paris Lees who met Adeyeye and the Hollyoaks production team. Talking about Blessing’s upcoming storyline for Attitude magazine, Paris said, “With the departure of Hayley Cropper from Coronation Street earlier this year, she’s the most high profile trans character on British television.” Hollyoaks fans will see Blessing’s storyline begin from May 16. Adeyeye added, “I hope that the people who need to be touched by her story will be."
