Late 90's. It was the era of teen-pop and bubblegum, with the boybands going strong and pop superstars being in the making. The situation back then saw new acts making their way to the scene one day after the other, but September 30, 1998 wasn't just any other day. 16 years ago today, one of the greatest ladies in pop made her debut and it's no other than Britney Spears.

Back in that day, Spears was introduced to the world with the release of her debut single, "...Baby One More Time" and the irresistibly catchy tune turns 16 today! The track did not make an impact until November 21, 1998 when it debuted on Billboard, to later top the chart on January 30. In total, "Baby" stayed on the charts for 32 weeks, with two of them on top. Around the time, the well-known, school-themed music video arrived and established Britney as the princess of pop. Back then, the 16-year-old songstress said of the recording process:

"I had been in studio for about six months listening and recording material, but I hadn't really heard a hit yet. When I started working with Max Martin in Sweden, he played the demo for '...Baby One More Time' for me, and I knew from the start it one was of those songs you want to hear again and again. It just felt really right. I went into the studio and did my own thing with it, trying to give it a little more attitude than the demo. In 10 days, I never even saw Sweden. We were so busy."

"...Baby One More Time" was a career-defining song for Britney Spears as a pop icon. Not only was it the one she first came out with, but it is also still considered one of the best-selling singles of all time, having sold more than 10 million copies. All it took was one song to get young Brit Brit on top of the world, and it is impressive how she has managed to stay relevant for all this time to see that same song turning 16; especially when pop stars come and go.

Right on the date, the songstress took to her Facebook to post the song's accompanying visual and thank her fans for their ongoing support by saying: "Happy sweet 16 to 'Baby One More Time'! Where did the time go!? Thx to my fans for supporting me since my 1st single ‪#‎Happy16thBirthdayBOMT‬"

We know you're probably feeling nostalgic (and old - yeah, mostly old), but let's take a look at that iconic music video.
