It has been a long six weeks for Nick Cordero, his wife Amanda Kloots, and their young son Elvis as Cordero has been in the ICU in Los Angeles since the end of March. However, Amanda shared some good news on Tuesday on Instagram Live and on her stories that her husband woke up after weeks of suffering and difficult complications relating to coronavirus. Kloots has been providing daily updates on social media for friends, family, and fans.

“Nick is so weak right now, even opening his eyes, closing his eyes takes all of his energy,” Kloots said in her post.

Cordero was admitted to the hospital in late March where he tested positive for COVID-19, and was immediately placed on a ventilator and in a medically induced coma. Cordero has suffered many complications including a temporary pacemaker, two mini strokes, a tracheostomy, and his lungs have been severely damaged by the virus. He also had part of his right leg amputated in April due to blood clotting issues that occurred during his treatment. The surgery was a success but he has been in a coma since. Friends of Amanda and Nick also started a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for Cordero’s treatment, which has now raised nearly $520,000 USD. Fans have been using #WakeUpNick on social media to share their love and support.

The Canadian Broadway star earned a Tony nomination and Drama Desk Award nomination for Featured Actor in a Musical  in 2014 for his performance as Cheech in Bullets Over Broadway. Since then, Cordero originated the role of Earl in Waitress and he originated the role of Sonny in A Bronx Tale, which also earned him a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Musical. Nick and Amanda and their son recently moved to Los Angeles where Nick was starring in Rock of Ages before it closed on March 14, 2020 due to the pandemic.
