Breaking Bad's anti-hero Bryan Cranston has told Digital Spy that all of these Lex Luthor rumors are “news to me”.
Rumors that the popular actor had been cast started in early August per Latino Review website. Since then, it has exploded with reputable news sites taking it and running with it. Many news sites, however, were leery about the rumors and weren’t sure because neither the actor nor the studio had commented on it.
PopWrapped also reported on the story earlier in the week detailing how the rumor got started. We also reported that Cranston had told Metro that he was certainly up for the challenge. He was quoted as saying, “Give me a call. I like Lex Luthor. I think he’s misunderstood. He’s a loveable, sweet man.”
Since then, the rumors have gotten so wild and so rabid that people are reporting that Cranston has signed on for six films in the Warner Brothers franchise. Some people are even making fake trailers for the new film, due out sometime in 2015. One such trailer was debuted five days ago on E!Online (which, I, admittedly, had thought was the source of all the rumor).
Today, however, is the day fanboys can remember as being the day of let down. Cranston has denied, in an interview promoting his new play, that he’s been signed on for any
anySuperman movies. He said, “I think that maybe my name is bandied about because I’m known to be bald. ‘What bald guy can we get?’ The reality is they can take any actor and shave his head or put a bald cap on him.”
Cranston also laughed off the notion that he called Gene Hackman, a previous Luthor, to ask for advice. “I can just see how that phone call would go,” he said.
The actor can be seen again on the big screen remake of Godzilla and in Cold Comes the Night.
