Burger King Is Back In Black!

If you’re in Japan after September 19th, you can try out Burger King’s almost all-black Kuro burger, but only if you like the sound of squid ink.

How many of you Japanese readers have been waiting for Burger King to bring back the black burger? Well, you’re in luck, it’s time to finally have it your way!

Burger King Japan launched a press release today that detailed the return of their apparently popular black burgers. There are two versions, the Kuro Pearl and the Kuro Diamond. The former being a simple cheeseburger, but the latter imitating the classic Whopper (or Royale with Cheese, for you Pulp Fiction fans). So what’s so special about them? Well, they’re black. The buns are black, the ketchup is black and even the cheese is black. Sadly, your lettuce is still going to be green.

They are made black using squid ink and bamboo charcoal, which sounds interesting at the very least. According to a Burger King Japan spokeswoman:

“The black burgers sold extremely well because of their visual impact, but people continued to come back for them because of their taste.”

Apparently the addition of charcoal and ink gives the burgers an “aroma”, which might not sound appealing to the western world, however it certainly proved popular in Japan. You’ll be able to get your hands on a Kuro Pearl or Diamond starting September 19th.

So, people of Japan, will you be trying, or perhaps returning to the black burgers? And for everyone else, would you love to try it? Let us know!
