Picture this: a happy California couple goes on vacation to New York. They book a room at the Astor on the Park Hotel on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It's a dream come true--the perfect getaway.

Then the bedbugs attacked.

The couple lifted up their mattress to discover creepy crawly bedbugs--a whole infestation of them. What started out as a lovely and thoughtful gift from Elgin Ozlen's mother quickly turned into a nightmare.

The couple had intended to spend a couple of days touring the Big Apple, and were looking forward to watching the ball drop on New Year's Eve.

"We were expecting a vacation to remember the rest of our lives, and we will definitely remember it for the rest of our lives, but it won't be a pleasant memory," says Ozlen.

The room was the couple's final stop after they refused two others due to lack of heating. Ozlen and his girlfriend made sure to take video of the infestation, which you can watch below.

Ozlen's girlfriend was going to take him to see the Rockettes on New Year's Day, his birthday, but had to cancel due to the infestation.

"On my birthday, I'm in the hospital, and I'm washing the best clothes that I brought that I own for this vacation, and during that process many of the clothes became damaged, because they're not meant to be dried," Ozlen says.

Other hotel guests have said their stay was "near perfect," while others have complained about the comfort of the hotel in light of these events. Ozlen's girlfriend obtained bites and inflammation which may lead to scarring if not properly treated.

The Department of Housing and the Astor on the Park Hotel have not yet commented on the event, although Ozeln has been fully refunded.

Talk about a bad end to the year. Yikes!
