It seems that a lot of things are changing in the realm of Hugh Hefner and Playboy Enterprises, Inc. First it was announced in late 2015 that the iconic Playboy Magazine would no longer be publishing full nude photos and now the infamous Playboy Mansion inhabited by the 89 year old Hugh Hefner will soon be up for sale.
Not just anyone will be able to purchase the property made famous by Mr. Hefner and his various antics, as the asking price has been hinted at approximately $200 million dollars by the company. Some have speculated that the actual cost will end up much more affordable estimation of $80 to $90 million and even that may be extreme. Either way, it is believed that the property may bring in more money than others in the area because of its lurid reputation.
The Playboy Mansion has made appearances in several movies, been frequented by many a celebrity over the years and was the backdrop of the somewhat successful E! series The Girls Next Door which featured Hef’s life at the home with his then girlfriends Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Baskett (née Wilkinson). The property has a swimming area that includes a cave referred to as “The Grotto” and contains several areas for exotic pets and various rooms for visiting guests. Let’s just say it is a piece of land that has seen many interesting exploits go down since it was first built in 1927 and later purchased by Mr. Hefner in 1971.
Those thinking of putting up the money to purchase the mansion (and curious to look upon such an outrageous piece of pop culture) will be able to tour the Playboy Mansion, but will not be able to go into Hef’s room. That may not be such a bad deal anyway, as many stories have been told about what has gone on in there and they aren’t all what you might guess them to be. Yes, many things are changing for Playboy and it will be interesting to see what happens next.
