Continuing with the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the FOX Television Network, we take a look at another cult show, Firefly. This show was gone from the FOX line-up much too soon, but it has stayed in the hearts of viewers for more than a decade.

Nah, he's not perfect.

He's strong, he's smart(ish), and he's brave as hell.

He knows the kind of people to trust. He knows how to trust. He knows who really not to trust.

The fact is: Captain Mal might be just the leader we're looking for these days.

And he doesn't take himself too seriously, either.

Firefly may have ended nearly as quickly as it started back in 2002, but it made a lasting impact on a lot of us. As we were taken aboard the Serenity, one of the best worst ships in the 'verse, all of the crew and 'cargo' are introduced as unique characters -- but none more so than fearless leader Captain Malcolm Reynolds.

Mal is a brave captain, blagging his way out of rough situation after even rougher situation, and he doesn't avoid showing his soft side when necessary. The one thing his crew always knows about him is that he has their backs.

But don't you ever question his authority aboard the Serenity.

He knows he has a temper, but he counts that among the traits he has going for him.

If you're part of his crew, you know that somehow you'll pull out the win in the end, no matter how lost your cause was.

I think, given the difficult election America is facing right now, maybe Captain Mal would make a great write-in candidate. After all, you'll always know you're on the same team as your leader -- pretty important in today's uncertain world.
