Cardinal Tells Parents To Not ‘Expose’ Children To Gay Couples

Cardinal Raymond Burke has explicitly expressed to parents that they shouldn’t expose their children to gay couples, even if they’re relatives.

Cardinal Raymond Burke, a high ranking official of the Catholic church has stated that parents should not allow their children to have contact with gay couples during family gatherings.

When asked by LifeSiteNews on “how should Catholic parents deal with a difficult situation like this: when planning a Christmas family gathering with grandchildren present, parents are asked by their son, who is in a homosexual relationship, if he can come and bring with him his homosexual partner?”

To which the Cardinal answered,

“If homosexual relations are intrinsically disordered, which indeed they are — reason teaches us that and also our faith — then, what would it mean to grandchildren to have present at a family gathering a family member who is living (in) a disordered relationship with another person?”

“We wouldn’t, if it were another kind of relationship — something that was profoundly disordered and harmful — we wouldn’t expose our children to that relationship, to the direct experience of it. And neither should we do it in the context of a family member who not only suffers from same-sex attraction, but who has chosen to live out that attraction, to act upon it, committing acts which are always and everywhere wrong, evil.”

This is in direct contrast to the progressive statements of Pope Francis, as well as the recent document released by the ongoing Synod of Bishops that states that gays who engage in same-sex relationships should be welcomed, but still stated that gay marriage is off the table.

Cardinal Burke participated in the Synod and has criticized the statement. He is a known conservative and was appointed to his position as Cardinal Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI . Pope Francis, before becoming a Bishop, was a member of the Society of Jesus, or Jesuits, considered to be the liberal arm of the Catholic church. The Jesuits have had a history of questioning the Vatican on issues such as birth control, liberal theology, and homosexuality. Pope Francis is the first member of the order to be elected to the Papacy.
