Having earned herself acclaim for previous singles “Sex and Wine”, and “Lying”, Cassidy – a creator of truly emotive, indie pop – continues to showcase her song-writing prowess and her openness to be vulnerable and raw in and through the music she makes with new track “The Devil”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere.
Written on a piano at a time when she was suffering from a broken heart, “The Devil” is the most autobiographical track Cassidy has released so far, and details her own experiences with the hurt and pain she went through. With simple instrumentation allowing the honesty of the lyrics to take centre stage, the song is sure to linger in the hearts and minds of those who can identify with the emotional intensity of enduring such pain.
Cassidy says of “The Devil”: “I wrote this song in the fall of 2017 after an on and off relationship that broke me down to my bones. I was not in a good place emotionally and I used that as power and inspiration to write The Devil. For me it doesn’t take a specific setting or moment to write music, but a moment that leaves a lasting impact on me. This makes it so my lyrics remain authentic and true. As far as my writing process I normally think of an experience that is resonating with me and then choose 2 to 3 words that relate to the situation in order to get my creativity flowing. After this step the lyrics and melody always come quickly and the music normally comes after. I also always prefer writing a song in one session. When I leave a song to rest for too long 9 times out of 10 it loses its sparkle for me.”
