It’s always a good thing to have more Hayley in our lives -- and our episodes -- and this week was no exception with "Backstabber".
Let’s see what happened, shall we?
Hayley and an “old friend” from MI6 meet up at an office building and meet a contact, Marcus. Marcus and Hayley break in and upload something to the drive while a guy enters the office with a blonde woman. They get a little frisky while Hayley and Marcus hide.
Marcus stays to watch the couple while Hayley, fairly disgusted, leaves.
The next morning, Marcus is found dead on the office floor, stabbed through the back.
So when Hayley is hanging out with Castle and hears that there was a murder at the office, she tags along under the guise that she’s interested in seeing how he works. She sees her partner lying on the floor and remains calm but also contaminates evidence that would have placed her with the victim.
Hayley calls her old MI6 contact, and he tells her there was more to this than she knew and to use Code 44.
Hayley rushes back to her apartment, where she is confronted by Alexis about leaving.
She goes to the precinct, and, after coercing a confession out of the guy from the office who struck out with his blonde companion using the tried and trusted swirly method (Hayley, not our Lothario), she admits to the gang that she was at the crime scene.
It is then we learn that the lights in London have gone out. Hayley unwittingly infected the London power grid with a worm.
They find Carla, the blonde woman, and she admits she was working with Marcus, as he told her they needed the office guy to break into the firewall. That was all she knew. Hayley takes her laptop and realises that the worm used was one she helped create years ago with her ex-partner.
A man who was meant to be dead.
Hayley goes to their old safe house to confront Wesley, and he says he wired 10 million into her account as part of a plan they dreamed about years ago. She tells him plans change and tries to take him in, so he smacks her head against a steel bar and calls it a day.
Hayley wakes up hanging from the roof on a hook, her hands tied, and Wesley is watching her. He says he’ll make her death quick but that she had gotten soft. She tells him she made connections to real people and had a family, and he tells her they made her weaker before dragging her forward to slice her throat.
Enter the 12th Precinct and Castle in the knock of time, who worked out her whereabouts.
Castle frees her, and she chases in the opposite way to catch Wesley before he escapes because she knows he’ll double back to lose the tail. She confronts him, and he tells her there’s only one way out: he dies or she does.
He jumps at her with the knife. Hayley pulls the trigger, and now he is officially dead.
Beckett pulls some strings, and the FBI decide not to question Hayley, as they have their name attached to preventing a terrorist attack, and Hayley is offered a job at MI6. She rebukes the offer with a hearty “piss off”, and all is right in the Castle world.
Castle, meanwhile, is in the bad books with Beckett, who had a dream he cheated on her, which means he is hiding something. It turns out, he was hiding her motorcycle. He had it fully refurbished, so they could take a trip together. He couldn’t keep a secret from the world’s greatest detective -- other than Batman, of course -- any longer.
What did you think of tonight’s episode?
And, in light of the sad news that Stana Katic and Tamala Jones will not be returning if the show gets renewed, how do you think they will write out Beckett?
