Castle Cancelled With Departure Of Stana Katic | Cancelled

As we previously reported, Stana Katic (Kate Beckett) will be leaving Castle at the end of this season. She and her co-star Tamala Jones (Lanie Parish) were not offered the chance to renew their contracts with ABC due to a "budgetary move."

Nathan Fillion had just signed on the dotted line to renew his contract as the titular character when he heard the news about Katic's departure. Jon Huertas and Seamus Dever had also renewed their contracts for the supposedly final ninth season of Castle when the network pulled the plug.

That's right. Castle will end this next Monday on the heels of its eighth season. Alexi Hawley, the show's executive producer, says they originally planned for a "dynamic" ending to the season should they move forward without Katic and Jones. However, now that the show has been officially cancelled, he says they will swap it out for an "alternate, closure-filled ending."

According to TVLine, Hawley had set a Friday the 13th decision deadline for ABC. If the show was not renewed by then, they're going with closure.

First of all, everyone knows you don't make important life decisions on Friday the 13th. Second of all, I demand a recount!

“Everything ends in tragedy — even an epic love story like yours.”

At least, that's what Castle hears in the current 08x22 promo for "Crossfire." The episode synopsis reads:

“With their best lead in hand, Castle and Beckett are ready to take on LokSat. But an unforeseen twist puts their case — and their lives — in jeopardy.”

This goes against Paul Lee's assurance that ABC had some "good ideas" for extending Castle beyond Season 8 back in January. Instead, they may be giving us one last big bang.

According to People, things have been slowly freezing over for a while. A source close to the cast told the news site the on-screen couple is not on speaking terms when the cameras aren't rolling. "The two were basically not speaking to each other if it wasn't in character."

Even though they aren't talking to each other, Fillion still wished Katic the best in a post on his Twitter.

Why would they do this to us??
