With the aim of finding a new singing talent, The Voice is an American reality television competition broadcast on NBC. It first aired on April 26, 2011. CeeLo Green was one of the judges during Seasons 1-3 and Season 5. This spring, the show will be back again for season 6, but CeeLo won’t be returning.
In an interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, he said to Ellen, “I’m going to continue my relationship with NBC. I have a television show development deal with them and hopefully some other talk show opportunities for later in the year,” said 39-year-old Green, a five-time Grammy Award winner. “But yeah, I’m going to miss The Voice, too. I’m not coming back, guys.”
After the shocking news, Ellen asked him, “Oh, you’re not coming back at all?”
Ceelo, who is planning a new tour through spring and summer with Lionel Richie, said, “I’m not coming back at all. I just don’t want to wear out my welcome there; you know what I’m saying? I have so many other things that I want to do. I haven’t released an album in four years. I’m almost done with my album.”
And he added, “I didn’t mean to drop the bomb today.”
Green appeared in the show with fellow mentors Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton in 2011. Shakira and Usher replaced Aguilera and Green during season four, and will do the same for season six. Since the show’s first aired, five people have won and its sixth season will kick off next Monday, February 24.
