Actor Chadwick Boseman (also Director and Screenwriter
) has had an awesome past two years on the silver screen and its only getting better! Following the epic role he played as Jackie Robinson in 42,
which received moderate but solid reviews, and then his role this past year as the iconic James Brown in Get on Up
, its safe to say Boseman is doing all the right things with his role choices.
Big news began to circulate yesterday
about Boseman landing the role in Marvel's Black Panther
which is set for a November 3, 2017 release. This makes Boseman Marvel's the first solo lead actor of color.
If that isn't awesome enough news, according to Deadline
, Boseman has secured a "lucrative five-film deal" with Disney/Marvel that will have him appear in a few Marvel universe movie adaptations, beginning in 2016, with Captain America: Civil War.
Yesterday, when asked whether a black director would be hired to direct the Black Panther movie, Marvel chief Kevin Feige stated the following: "We’re looking for the best directors possible," adding that, "Reggie I’ve known for many years and is a great guy - I think I’m meeting him again shortly."
The Reggie he references is Reggie Hudlin, who was over a Black Panther cartoon series a few years ago, and who in fact wrote several issues of the Black Panther comic book in the early to late-2000s, meaning he's indeed knowledgeable about the material.
