The long wait between midseason finale and midseason premiere is almost over, and The Walking Dead‘s official Facebook page helped fill the void by releasing a series of Season 7b character portraits. Just like the season 7 character portraits that were released just prior to the season 7 premiere, these character portraits also feature black and white images of the characters and tie in the red that was used in the original portraits.
So what do these portraits mean? Well, we’re just as confused as you. Just as the Season 7b promo images left our minds reeling, these cryptic and creepy character portraits are leaving us scratching our heads and trying to figure out what exactly they could mean.
The character portrait of most interest is that of Morgan Jones. His stands out among the 14 others — the image split into three — and it has led to a lot of fan speculation. Some fans are wondering if it could mean he develops a split personality while others think that it may signify a sort of rebirth, a transformation back into a man that was willing to kill to survive. We’re betting on the latter given the prominence of pomegranates in “The Well,” a fruit that signifies rebirth.
Fans also reacted to the lack of a portrait of Glenn — he was the first of the original Atlanta group to die since Season 3, and TWD family still isn’t over his death.
What else caught fan interest? Rick is holding is holding his python in his character portrait and is wearing his signature coat. Fans of the show know what the murder coat means — Rick isn’t taking any crap. Carol is also holding her knife, meaning that we’ll likely see a return of the old Carol that swooped in to save the day on countless occasions. Bye bye, Suzy homemaker façade. And, of course, there was a ton of fangirl swooning over Daryl Dixon’s portrait.
Whatever the images mean, we only have a few more weeks to find out!
The Walking Dead returns to AMC Sunday, February 12 at 9pm ET/PT.
