Los Angeles electro-pop artist Charli, known for her bright-pop melodies and clever yet personal and relatable lyrics, has already amassed over 120,000 streams of her songs – I Love Me”, “Lovey Dovey” and “N2” – on Spotify, while her short film, The Time Left has received several awards and nominations such as “Best Actress” and “Best Musical Film” at Silk Road Festival, Cannes and “Best Original Song” at Indie Short Festival in Los Angeles among others. Today, PopWrapped are delighted to premiere her new single, the dance-banger “Boys.”
The song tells the story about her own personal experience of being labeled incorrectly in her identity while also celebrating all the men in the world who deserve praise and appreciation. Charli says of the track: “I love Boys! I’ve always loved and admired boys and men! I think that it’s really difficult to be a man in our society now. We talk a lot about being a woman nowadays, because of body-shaming, discrimination, disrespect, and more, and that’s a massive concern, but we forget that men also experience these problems. Being myself was always a battle. I thought that being a woman was being feminine, wearing dresses, having long hair, and all the BS that society tells us to be when we are younger. But as I was working on myself, I realized that it was not me but the societal pressures that are the problem. That makes me sad as I meet and know so many beautiful men, all so different, that have exactly the same problem as I do, but they are petrified to talk about it. In our society, a man is pressured to be strong, masculine, etc. If this song can help other men to love themselves then I’ll achieve my goal!”
Charli’s passionate delivery adds vibrant color and emotion to the track, radiating a powerful yet playful atmosphere. Layered with an intoxicating, sexy rhythm and a catchy neon pop melody, “Boys” reminds us that it’s not just the women that need to be celebrated.
