Fox made the official announcement that the 3D animation was set for a 2015 during a CinemaCon panel discussion on Thursday (April 18). According to Digital Spy, attendees were shown the first picture from the film upon which Fox Chairman Jim Gianopulos stated, “This will forever change the face of animation. Prepare to have your minds blown”.

It was also confirmed that Steve Martino (Ice Age: Continental Drift) will be directing the feature with Fox’s animation arm, Blue Sky Studios, creating it. The animated feature has the full support of creator Charles M Schulz’s family. Reports in the latter half of 2012 suggested that the release date of the film would be 25 November, 2015. There was no confirmation of this at the panel. 2015 marks the 65th anniversary of the debut of the “Peanuts” comic strip as well as the 50th anniversary of the television special, A Charlie Brown Christmas.

The new film will be the first time Charlie Brown has been on the big screen since 1980’s Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and Don’t Come Back!!).
