Hands up if you're sick of the Gaga/Madonna comparisons ! Well it turns out that pop legend, Cher certainly is...

Well known for her "tell it like it is" attitude, the star spoke candidly with Attitude magazine as they asked for her opinion on the topic.

Referring to her own age-defying career when approached for comment on who she thought might be "a young Cher" today, she replied: "There is no young me. If you get to be that, if you get to a certain level, you have to be the young you ... Until I'm dead. Maybe when I'm dead, someone will go, 'Oh that's the young Cher,' but I like Gaga because of her audacity."

"You can't be the young anybody else. That's why Gaga is Gaga and Madonna is Madonna. All these people are themselves. You can't be the young anybody."

Not long ago, Gaga and Cher made waves with a leaked collaboration called "The Greatest Thing", which Cher wanted to feature on her newly released album, Closer to the Truth.

The track failed to get final approval from Gaga though, who responded to the leak with: "I love Cher so much. When we do a duet that we release, I want it to be special. I want us to work on it together."

As she hasn't released a new album in nearly a decade, Cher was asked  who some of her favourite young artists of the past few years have been. "I wish Amy Winehouse was here because I really liked her," she said.

"Aside from her music, I liked the fact that she was so authentic - not looking like anybody else and not caring. If her eye make-up was smeared, that was fine... there was no veneer there. She was all wood. I really loved her."

She continued, "Rihanna is a great artist. I think there are a lot of great artists out there now. There are a lot of mediocre ones too, but that's always been."

Closer to the Truth was released in the UK this week and if it's a success, it could become the star's highest charting record in two decades!

Famously, Cher has charted a one number one single on Billboard in each of the past six decades. Get it, girl!
