According to recent figures, more than 38 million people in China visited the cinema between January 31st and February 6th, bringing in a record breaking box office of 1.4 billion yuan (around $230 million).
The films that had everyone rushing the theaters this holiday period were “The Monkey King”, a film based on Chinese folktale; and “Dad, Where are we going?” a film about celebrity dad’s and their children.
I haven’t heard of them either of these films, but they must be good if they brought in that much money!
These results are an 85% increase from last year’s intake of 760 million yuan ($125 million) brought in by about 19 million trips to the theatre.
A truly 21st Century way to spend Chinese New Year!
