Former NFL Coach Chip Kelly To Join ESPN As College Football Analyst

According to a report by CBS, former Oregon Ducks, Philadelphia Eagles, and San Francisco 49ers head coach will soon be joining ESPN as an analyst.

In the sport of American football, Chip Kelly has held a significant number of different positions. As the offensive coordinator/head coach of the Oregon Ducks, Kelly coached his team to three Pacific 10/Pac-12 Championships in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Kelly later made the move to the big leagues when he became the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013, where he was able to maintain a moderately successful Eagles team until 2015, when he transitioned to an unsuccessful head coaching venture with the San Francisco 49ers.

Recently however, it appears that Kelly has assumed yet another position within his chosen sport; an ESPN college football analyst. This past Friday, ESPN announced that the former coach had agreed to a multiyear studio analyst deal, and that he will have a “significant presence” on the company’s various stations during the college football season.

“Over the last 30 years, I have experienced football from one perspective – as a coach,” Kelly said in a statement he gave to CBS. “Working in television will allow me to see the game from a different angle; simultaneously, I’ll provide viewers an insight to the mindset of a coach and team while offering alternative views of various situations.

“Once I decided to make the move to TV, my familiarity with ESPN, combined with their high-quality production and vital role in college football, it was easily the best network suited for me,” he concluded.

As of yet, no specific details have been given for the duration of Kelly’s upcoming position, but ESPN seems to have significant faith in the former coach. Chip Kelly will be hosting college football pre-game shows, halftime shows, and studio wraps on ESPN2. Additionly, Kelly will be making various appearances on SportsCenter on Fridays and Sundays for commentary on both college-level and NFL games.
