Chloe Ray Warmoth Talks New Film ‘Greatland’

“..I was just thrilled to be part of this project.”

In her latest film, versatile actress Chloe Ray Warmoth plays an outspoken tomboy caught up in the fantastical scenario of the new film Greatland. The movie, which also stars Eric Roberts and Bill Oberst, is available via Amazon VOD now. Here, Chloe talks about her first big break and what made her want to be a part of Greatland.

Was acting always the goal?

Acting definitely started as the goal, but I just love movies, everything about them. As my love for cinema, history, and filmmakers grew, I decided I wanted to learn more than just the acting side of the industry. I am currently attending Chapman University’s Dodge College for film school and plan to direct as well as act.

Did you study?

I am constantly studying and working on my acting. I’ve done a weekly scene study class at Cynthia Bain’s Young Actors Studio for several years as well as lots of private coaching, and independent research on my own. There is always more to learn and different ways I can challenge myself. Each role must be tackled independently from the others. All of the training just feeds the roots that help me grow into each unique character.

What do you consider your big break?

Greatland was my first feature film, so it will always have a strong and fond place in my heart. I think the roles that made me most recognizable would be playing Coco on Fuller House and playing Martha from the Hooked App’s Trevor and the Virgin and Trevor and the Virgin 2. The Hooked App is #1 on the App Store in 25 countries, and reaches an audience of 50 million, Trevor and the Virgin was their first film versus story so my face was kinda everywhere.

Did you frame the first check?

No, but I wish I would have thought to do that! My first check came while I was still living in Michigan, I did a commercial for a large furniture company. It was my first time being on a professional set, and it felt magical. I was 12 and I turned to my mom and said “this is what I am doing with my life”, at 14 we moved to Los Angeles so I could learn from the best, and where I did not frame my first check, it definitely was the impetus of everything to come.

How did you get involved in Greatland?

I got involved with Greatland through a very typical process of auditions and call-back auditions. I remember thinking this was just such a creative script from a very intellectual mind and I just had to be a part of it! Dana Ziyasheva – the writer/director – is sure to make her mark in this world, and I was just thrilled to be part of this project.

Tell us about the film.

Greatland is a world of perpetual fun and inter-species love which is creatively ruled by a universal Mother. I see Greatland as a coming of age story in a dystopian utopia. Like our current world Greatland is struck with a “virus” which separates my character Ugly Duck from her sweetheart and best friend Ulysses. Greatland pushes the boundaries and has a Clockwork Orange sort of feel with much more heart and soul.
