Who is worthy enough to take on a film franchise made famous by Hollywood icon Mel Gibson? No less than a god, of course! The Tracking Board has confirmed that Thor: The Dark World star Chris Hemsworth has been offered a leading role in a Lethal Weapon reboot, titled Lionhunters. Reports say the storyline will centre on the son of an older police officer who wants to follow in his father’s footsteps. Presumably, Chris may be playing the role of Martin Riggs’ (Mel Gibson) son, but that has yet to be confirmed. Any indication that Mel Gibson or Danny Glover, who played his partner, are attached to the project is also vague at best.
Other confirmed big names for the project include producer Joel Silver, director Justin Lin (Fast and The Furious), and screenwriter Will Beal (Gangster Squad). Shane Black, who created the characters and wrote the screenplay for the first two films of the franchise, is rumored to have input on the upcoming reboot.
The Lethal Weapon Series is one of the most successful action film franchises ever produced, it spanned four films, and earned $950 million dollars at the worldwide box office!
So what do you think? Are you excited for a reboot, or do you think the original should just be left alone? Is Chris Hemsworth right for the franchise, or will it be another Red Dawn?
