The fashion gods must have wanted the VMAs to be risky this year, or at least I think so. From having former Disney starlet Miley Cyrus as the hostess, to showing off some serious skin (I’m looking at you, Miley), the awards show has its counts of fashion blehs and wins. For now, here are my favorites from the red carpet, in no particular order.
Lily Aldridge in Alexandre Vauthier and Stuart Weitzman shoes
A black dress is a staple for every wardrobe, but it can be tricky one. The simplicity of the plunging neckline and color doesn’t need many accessories- a mistake many have made. However, model Lily Aldridge shows that less is indeed more in a sophisticated way.
Karlie Kloss in Louis Vuitton
Reminicent of the spectacular sunsets found in Cali, the Luis Vuitton Resort ’16 dress is a reminder of fond summertime memories at the beach. Despite its laid back look, it maintains a refined touch suitable for the VMAs with its notable accents found running on the dress.
Gigi Hadid in Emilia Wickstead, Guiseppe Zanotti shoes, a Lorraine Schwartz ring, and an Ofira necklace
This in-between hue of yellow and orange can be tricky to wear, even for fashionistas- its simply a color that’s not suitable for everyone. Gigi is an exception, however; the dress naturally pops against her glowing skin, making this one of the most effortless looks of the night.
Fka Twigs in Atelier Versace
Risk meets risque, but in a good way. Not for the faint of heart, the sultry cage corset paired with a sheer number oozes with major sex appeal. Luckily, this look was one of the best risks of the night.
Vanessa Hudgens in Naeem Khan
The singer and actress brings back her trademark bohemian vibes along with a splash of fairy princess. From the enchanting flowers on her dress to the multi-layering of eye-catching necklaces and bangles, she still remains as Hollywood’s flower child.
Nicki Minaj in Sonja Morgan
Nicki’s look is undoubtedly a body-hugging sheer dress done right. Pairing it with minimal accessories – from her hear to her statement jewelry – makes the dress even more stunning. Featuring intricate patterns of golden leaves and a bold shade of gold embroidery, it still leaves room to the imagination.
Martha Hunt in Georges Chakra mini, Stuart Weitzman shoes, and Anna Sheffield jewelry
Coming straight from the Georges Chakra’s Fall 15′ collection, this mini is exactly why the little black dress (LBD) is an important necessity for every wardrobe; it’s the perfect accessory for a girl’s night out, even if you happen to be part of Taylor Swift’s ever-growing squad. The neckline is my favorite since the sheer fabric merges quite beautifully with its darker counterpart. In addition, the translucent sheer nearly transforms it into an edgy one-shoulder dress even though it’s not.
Demi Lovato in Nicolas Jebran
Possibly one of the best looks of the night, in my opinion. The complexity of the dress, with its mosaic-like structure combined with a soft touch of femininity, is a breathtaking work of art.
Brooklyn Beckham in Ralph Lauren
Style continues to run in the children of Victoria and David Beckham. With the selection of minimalist hues of black, grey, and white, it maintains high fashion while reflecting off everyday casual wear.
What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with my selections?
