New clips have been released from the Batman archive to celebrate the announcement of an Ultimate Collectors Edition of the Dark Knight Trilogy.
According to Digital Spy, one of the clips features Christian Bale’s audition for Batman Begins. The actor is seen in a screen test clip from 2003, opposite Man of Steel’s Amy Adams, wearing Val Kilmer’s Batsuit.
“The box set comes with six Blu-Ray discs, which include all three films from Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. The collection will also have a 48-page photo book of the trilogy, a letter from Nolan and over 90 minutes of brand new special features,” Digital Spy.
Among the 90 minutes of footage is a conversation between Nolan and Superman’s Richard Donner and a featurette about the creation of the series and the impact it has had.
In one clip from the video The Fire Rises, Nolan explains that it took 15 minutes to convince Warner Bros. to let him direct the Batman Begins.
There is one clip, however, that shows how hints for the trilogy were planted very early on in the series. The clip is when a young Bruce Wayne meets Falcone, an underworld boss played by Tom Wilkinson, in a Nightclub. Entertainment Weekly reported that, “In Wilkinson’s speech, you can hear the first draft of Anne Hathaway’s later threat to Bruce Wayne, (‘…you and your friends better batten down the hatches…’), a diatribe that was later credited to the influence of the Occupy Wall Street crowd and the financial cratering that followed the Wall Street meltdown. Turns out, it was all there from the very beginning.”
The Dark Knight Trilogy; Ultimate Collector’s Edition will be released in the UK on October 7.
