Everyone in Hollywood is getting married, even Heathers star Christian Slater! Slater got hitched to his fiancee, Brittany Lopez, in a last minute ceremony on Monday in Miami. The couple had been together for three years before they announced their engagement last February. Slater had previously told Jimmy Fallon that he mistakenly thought his future fiancee was a lesbian back when they first met on a holiday in Miami.
Slater has this to say when recalling the first time he met Lopez: “This girl came walking along with another lady, a slightly older lady,” he recalled. “I was sitting in my usual spot, eating my oatmeal… and this spot was famous for people proposing to each other. It was very, very nice. So she’s there, and the next thing I know, she gets down on one knee and proposes to this older lady. I thought I had just witnessed a nice lesbian engagement, so I was coming over to say congratulations, but it turns out it was her aunt, and she was just trying to help her aunt capture the beauty and the romance of the moment. She was making a joke, and I witnessed it, and it intrigued me, and the next thing I knew, we were hanging out in the Everglades.”
Slater had been married once before, to TV presenter Ryan Haddon, with two children together. Haddon and Slater announced that they were separating back in 2004, after a highly publicized incident that took place between the two at the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas. They were divorced shortly after that in 2007. Nonetheless, it’s great to see that Slater is happily settling down again.
