Christina Grimmie of The Voice was shot after her concert Friday night at Plaza Live Theater in Orlando, Florida.  She has died from her injuries, PopWrapped’s Zachary Jaydon first reported.

Her rep said in a statement, “It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn’t survive the gun shot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning. The shooting happened after the hometown concert with pop/punk band Before You Exit, witnesses say. Grimmie and Before You Exit were signing autographs and selling their merchandise at the front of the venue, when a man came into the venue with two guns, shooting Grimmie in the head.   The singer’s brother tackled the gunman, who during the engagement, shot himself. Orlando Police Department public information officer Wanda Miglio said during a press briefing early Saturday morning that it was unclear how the suspect entered the venue with the firearms. Police responded to a call received at 10:24 p.m. that shots had been fired at Plaza Live Theater.

The gunman has not been identified, though he was in possession of two guns, the types of which have not been released.  The interference from Grimmie’s brother prevented the gunman from shooting anyone else.  The unidentified gunman was pronounced dead at the scene.  Grimme was rushed to Orlando Regional Hospital, where she later died of her injuries.

Miglio said Grimmie’s brother, “immediately tackled the suspect, stopping him from causing any more harm to Christina and her fans. During the struggle, the suspect shot himself. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene….Her brother is a hero for saving and stopping him from not hurting anyone else.”

Grimmie was best known for her YouTube channel and appearance on the sixth season of The Voice.
