Fans of Mad Men and Loki from Marvel's The Avengers and Thor will soon be seeing a whole new side to soon-to-be swashbucklers Christina Hendricks and Tom Hiddleston. The actors, as previously reported, have lent their voices to Disney's  fifth installment of the animated Tinker Bell series, The Pirate Fairy, due out on DVD and in theaters next spring. Disney has released a sneak peek at the character art that features Hendricks as Zarina, a headstrong fairy, and Hiddleston as the scoundrel James, both looking like some of the famous characters they have portrayed. Hendricks shared a little insight about her role along with the release of the images. "This is definitely my first pirate part but hopefully not my last one. Zarina is definitely a spunky little thing. She's a fairy who dives into full-on pirate," Hendricks said. Zarina has Hendrick's trademark red hair but the comparisons to Mad Men's Joan, the character Hendricks is most known for, stops there. Director Peggy Holmes explained how they decided on Zarina's look for the film. "We gave her more of an athletic body. Zarina needs to be able to hang with the pirates, swing on ropes and get around a ship," Holmes said. The director also shared why Hendricks was chosen to take on the role. "Christina has this vulnerable, fragile side but you don't want to fool with her when she gets her feathers ruffled. That's the kind of girl that needs to be around pirates. She can hold her own," Holmes explained. Pirate Fairy, a spin-off from the 1953 Disney classic Peter Pan, tells the story of when Zarina steals the magical Blue Pixie Dust from the fairy home of Pixie Hollow before heading out to a life at sea with the pirates of Skull Rock. Zarina gets a lot more than she bargains for when the dashing pirate James turns out to be the younger version of a villain who will grow up to be known as Captain Hook. In this version of the story, howwever, James has both hands but still possesses that special villainous touch that he will have when he becomes famous. All these shenanigans leave Tinker Bell (Parenthood's Mae Whitman) and her fellow fairies, including water fairy Silvermist (Elementary's Lucy Liu), garden fairy Rosetta (Smash's Megan Hilty), and Iridessa (former Disney Star Raven-Symoné) to come to her rescue. Hiddleston, the British thespian best known for his double-crossing and fan favorite Loki from Thor and The Avengers, finds himself at home with this role as he makes the seamless transition into high-seas treachery and villainy. Director Holmes had nothing but praises about Hiddleston's talents and how he is beyond suited for the role. "He has a lot of charm and charisma. For me, all the best double-crossers have that," Holmes shared. Check out the Disney versions of Hendricks and Hiddleston below:
