It might be a little hard to believe but the first Bad Santa film came out more than a decade ago in 2003.
Nevertheless, a sequel has finally been confirmed and, according to numerous reports, Mad Men star Christina Hendricks is coming along for the ride.
The reports claim that Hendricks will play the love interest of Billy Bob Thornton's mall Santa, Willie T. Stokes, suggesting that she'll either be the head of a society charity that Stokes and his mom Sunny (Kathy Bates) will try and rip off, or that she'll be enamoured by a Santa fetish (anyone else have one?)
The Hollywood Reporter say that Hendricks will play Diane who:
"...is an Ivy League-educated, upper-crust lady has a thing for shady lowlifes in a Santa costume.”
Marcus (Tony Cox) and Thurman Merman (Brett Kelly) are also reprising their roles.
The film, which begins shooting in Montreal next week, will be directed by Mark Waters, the same man who brought us the hugely popular Mean Girls (why oh why someone ever made a sequel to that I don't know...).
Shauna Cross, script writer of the Chloe Grace Moretz film If I Stay and Entourage writers Johnny Rosenthal and Doug Ellin have teamed up to work on the screenplay and the film be produced by Andrew Gunn and Geyer Kosinski.
Bad Santa made $77m at the global box office so no doubt the cast and crew are hoping the sequel can do just as well if not better.
Hendricks, one of the worlds' most famous redheads made a name for herself as Joan Holloway in Mad Men, and has just completed the independent film Pottersville which she stars in with Michael Shannon.
No release date or other information regarding Bad Santa 2 has yet been announced.
